Is there a Red Cross CPR class in Covina itself?

Not one we run. The closest is ours at 100 N. Barranca St in West Covina, a short way south of where Barranca Avenue leaves Covina and turns into Barranca Street. From the Covina-Valley Unified district office at Badillo and Barranca, stay on Barranca heading south and you arrive in a couple of minutes. A map pin that puts us inside Covina is wrong, and we would rather you hear that from us.

Why do Covina parents and caregivers pick the Adult and Pediatric course?

Because one class covers every age in the house. CPR is practised on adult, child and infant manikins, and the first aid portion deals with injuries and sudden illness, so a grandparent watching a toddler and a parent of a teenage athlete leave with the same skills. If nobody has asked you for a particular card and you simply want to be ready, this is the course we suggest.

Working at a Covina preschool or family child care home?

California's Health and Safety Code 1596.866 asks licensed child care centers and family child care homes for pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training, and it points to courses from the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association or an EMSA-approved program. This Red Cross class includes pediatric CPR and first aid, but licensing decides what counts, so check the EMSA approved list and ask your director or the Child Care Licensing regional office before you book.

Swim instructor or deck staff at Covina Park this summer?

The city's summer swim program at the Michael D. Antonovich Aquatic Center is run by Premier Aquatics, and pool jobs usually ask for some form of first aid and CPR. Lifeguard certification is a separate, longer Red Cross course that this class does not replace, so read your offer closely. For instructors, deck staff and camp counselors whose requirement says first aid, CPR and AED, this class is a close match; confirm with your supervisor first.

Red Cross or AHA Heartsaver: which should a Covina employee choose?

Whichever your employer names. Both are widely accepted for workplace and caregiver requirements, and we teach both in the same building. Pick this Red Cross class when the paperwork says Red Cross or asks for pediatric first aid, and the AHA Heartsaver course when it says American Heart Association. Our Covina CPR page, linked below, covers Heartsaver if that turns out to be the one.

When does the class meet, and how do I get my certificate?

Twice a week: Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM and Saturdays at 12:00 PM. After you pass, the Red Cross emails you a link to a digital certificate once your instructor submits the class paperwork. It carries a unique ID and a QR code an employer can look up, and it stays valid for two years.
