AltaMed has been based in the community since 1969 and is the largest federally qualified health center in the country, with more than 70 accredited health centers and service facilities, and it serves as the East Los Angeles AHEC site. Around it sit independent clinics, dental practices, dialysis, imaging and home health agencies, and LAC+USC Medical Center draws a large clinical workforce from the area.

Nearly everyone licensed in that ecosystem carries an AHA BLS Provider card, and those cards expire on their own schedules. Chasing renewals one at a time is the expensive version. We teach the full BLS course on site, adult, child and infant CPR, AED use, 2-rescuer CPR, bag-valve-mask ventilation and team dynamics, and issue the official AHA eCard the same day. Renewal and initial certification are the same course, so mixed groups are no problem.

Manufacturing accounts for roughly 11 percent of jobs in the area, and ten of the largest employers are manufacturers, producing metals, brushes and adhesives alongside food products like tortillas and ice cream. Heartsaver CPR AED with the First Aid module covers that environment. Alongside CPR and AED use, First Aid adds bleeding control, burns, crush and fracture care. We can run a session per shift so a line does not stop for a training day, and we will train the whole crew rather than one nominated responder.

College and school staff

East Los Angeles College employs several hundred staff across instruction, administration and student services, and the schools across the community add many more adults responsible for young people.

Student health services generally needs BLS Provider. Athletics, campus safety, facilities, classroom aides and general staff are covered by Heartsaver CPR AED. You provide a room and the people. Early mornings before clinic opens, lunch blocks, shift changes and evenings all work, and we can split a large staff across two sessions in the same day.
