What changes the price of a CPR class?
There is no single national price. The American Heart Association says its Training Centers set their own fees and schedules, so the same course can cost different amounts at different places. These are the things that move the price.
- The course
The course you need is the biggest factor, so compare the rows in the tables above. A combination day that issues two or three cards costs more than a single course, so book one only if you need every card.
- AHA or Red Cross
Both organizations teach CPR, and each class is priced on its own. Your employer or school may name one of them, so check which card they want before you compare prices.
- In person, blended or online only
Blended learning means an online part first, then an in-person skills session. The AHA says the training center offering the skills session sets its price. Online-only classes are a different product: the AHA issues a card for a course that includes CPR only after a hands-on skills session, and the Red Cross says online-only classes may not meet workplace requirements.
- Group or onsite
Training a team at your workplace is priced per student by group size. See corporate CPR training for how it works.
What is included in the price here
Each class price covers the instructor-led class, hands-on practice on manikins, your skills check and your card. AHA eCards are issued the same day after you pass. Our BLS, Heartsaver, ACLS, PALS and Red Cross course pages each state that no card fees are added at checkout, and the ACLS, PALS and Red Cross classes add no materials fees either.
For ACLS and PALS, we email you the precourse self-assessment link with your booking confirmation, along with the current AHA algorithms to review before class.
AHA cards are valid for two years, through the end of the month the card was issued. The Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is valid for two years.
HeartCode BLS has two parts
The HeartCode BLS price in the table is for the in-person skills session and your eCard. The online part, HeartCode BLS Online, is a separate AHA course that you finish before you come in. Not sure which version to get? Call us at (626) 605-2067 before you buy it.
Is CPR certification free?
You can watch the American Heart Association's short Hands-Only CPR videos on its website without taking a class. Watching a video does not earn a card, though.
An AHA card for a course that includes CPR comes only after a hands-on skills session, and each training center sets its own fee for that class. Be careful with websites that offer free or instant online certification: the Red Cross says online-only classes may not meet workplace requirements, so ask your employer before you rely on one.
Does my employer pay for CPR certification?
Sometimes. It depends on your employer and your job, so ask before you book. A few questions get you a clear answer.
- Ask who pays
Ask your manager, HR or school program whether they pay for the class up front, pay you back afterward, or expect you to cover it.
- Ask which card
Find out which card they accept, such as AHA BLS or a Red Cross certificate, so the class you pay for counts.
- Keep your records
Save your payment confirmation and your card in case you need them for a reimbursement request.
- Training a whole team?
An employer with several people to train can book one group class instead of paying for each person separately.
